Beware of Rabies

image

Better late than never. A review of Quarantine. First and foremost the movie definitely made me want to stay away from living in an apartment building, things spread fast in confined spaces. So beware.

The film starts off extremely slow with a young news reporter looking to cover a story on the local fire department. The evening begins rather calm..

Nick and Norah Made Me Hate Juno Even More

Saturday, October 04, 2008

imageLast year’s indie comedy Juno came out of nowhere and made a huge splash in the box office considering its relatively low production cost. It also garnered several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and even won for Best Original Screenplay. And I hated Juno so much. Last year produced so many great films, yet this marginally decent film received everyone’s love and attention. So now with Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist coming out to be this years Juno, I had to go see it so that I could hate more on Juno through this seemingly 2008 version of it. The only problem? I loved Nick and Norah

Lovin’ On “Body of Lies”

Thursday, October 02, 2008

image I’ve been talking to lots of people for the last couple of weeks in regards to Ridley Scott’s new film “Body of Lies”. The conversation would usually fall on the fact that I absolutely had no interest in the film following the trailer, a sentiment I still stand by, the trailer was junk and did nothing to present the true greatness that this movie projects. Let no one say that Sir Ridley cannot still orchestrate a kick-ass action epic that simultaneously presents an intellectual and compelling plot.  Not that the notion was ever in question, after all we’re talking about the man who has created such gems as “Gladiator”, “Blade Runner”, “Black Hawk Down” and “Alien”, just to name a few. Admittedly, I’m a bit ashamed of myself for ever doubting Scott, though I really hope he finds halfway decent editors to cut his trailers by the time he wraps “Nottingham”, his Robin Hood revamp, starring none other then his man-crush Russell Crowe.  But enough about the future, let’s get down to business and talk about the glory within “Body of Lies”

Keira’s Knightley Engagement with The Duchess

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

image Living in the Los Angeles area, I often have a chance to attend screenings of films before their release. Recently Josh and I attended a screening at the Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood for a film that has only just received a limited release in the US. This film was The Duchess starring Keira Knightley.

Beoufed Or Bust: How I Learned to Stop Hating Shia and Despise “Eagle Eye”

image In the past few days I’ve had the chance to screen two films that I had little to no interest in. The first was Ridley Scott’s latest, “Body of Lies” which I enjoyed the hell of (review to follow) and then there’s DJ Caruso’s lackluster “Eagle Eye” starring none other then my not-so-favorite Shia LaBeouf. The irony of this whole experience was that I gained acceptance for Shia, even though I thought the film was nothing more then a shitty modern take of “2001: A Space Odyssey”, minus everything good…

One More Reason To Love Sam: A Review of “Lakeview Terrace”

Sunday, September 28, 2008

image My love affair with Samuel L. Jackson began sometime in the late 1990’s. I was just beginning my long lasting romance with cinema and I discovered Mr. Jackson in a little film called “Pulp Fiction”, maybe you’ve heard of it. As of late, you’ll find many people criticizing Sam for his choice of roles that for many A-list stars would be career killers, for example a cop who battles snakes, on a plane. Still, Jackson remains second only to Harrison Ford in the category of box office success and he seams to be having a hell of a lot of fun doing what he’s doing…

Did I get Burned After Reading?

Friday, September 26, 2008

image Less than a year ago the Coen Brothers wowed us all with their film No Country for Old Men, which walked away from the Academy Awards with not only a Best Picture Oscar, but also garnished the duo a Best Directing award as well. Now they’re already back with their next feature, Burn After Reading…

Saw into this Clip

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

image

Sadly Saw V has not yet released the official trailer but they have given us a sick clip from the new movie. Obviously moments after it was released the HouseOfJigsaw forums went wild with people speculating over what it means. The only thing I got from reading the forums was that no matter what you think, you are probably wrong. The Saw movies are unpredictable and crazy.

In this clip is one of Jigsaw’s twisted traps. Personally I don’t feel it is plot revealing at all but it sufficiently gives us our gory Saw fix until the movie’s release. It gives us just enough to whet our appetites. This time it has a man strapped to a table and a sharp pendulum is slowly swinging towards him. That’s all I’ll give you for now since I want you to experience the suspense and stress for yourself.

Theatres That Kick Ass: The Silent Movie Theatre

Sunday, September 07, 2008

imageA few weeks ago I was up in L.A and passed the Silent Movie Theatre in Fairfax. The marquee read “Samurai Films” and I was instantly intrigued. It’s becoming increasingly rare to find a theatre that creates both a comfortable and intimate atmosphere while simultaneously offering unique and interesting programming. And this is why I’m a little giddy right now, feeling like I’ve discovered a personal oasis in this little kickass theatre…

Not Your Average Stoner Flick

Saturday, September 06, 2008

imageNow that I’m back at college I have been watching more trailers than ever because it is my excuse not to do work. I even watch trailers for movies I know will probably be terrible (except for High School Musical trailers, I won’t even go there). However I almost always stumble upon a gem. This time it was the trailer for Humboldt County…

Freedom!

Wednesday, September 03, 2008

imageFor anyone with a passion for the Renaissance the season has come for Rennfest’s all over the country. The Maryland Renaissance festival has begun, and I am an avid faire attendee! This weekend I sported my legs in a fashionable kilt alongside my lovely lady in gorgeous highland attire. As it does every year, Rennfest gets me in the mood for some Mel Gibson Braveheart action. So yes maybe I’ve watched the movie 3 times this weekend, and perhaps I have played the soundtrack everywhere I have went, but anyone who has seen the film certainly knows the glory and epic nature of this classic masterpiece…

A Word about Disaster Movie

Tuesday, September 02, 2008

image

I made an executive decision that wasting any amount of money by seeing Disaster Movie this weekend would be a complete and total exercise in fail. And I am thankful that i stayed away from the box office disaster. However, the quality of this film has been ranked so subpar it is not deserving of a full article, so i give you a quote from a friend. Prepare yourselves this is some mindblowing cinematic analysis for a film of this stature…

Hanging With Vicky and Cristina in Barcelona

Friday, August 29, 2008

image It’s been months since I first saw the trailer for Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and it seams that every moment since I’ve been eager to wrap my eyes around the visual love fest. The very thing that captured my attention with the trailer, enveloped me during the course of the film: the cast and the characters they create. Here we have Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem and my current celebrity crush Ms. Penelope Cruz. Bam! The elements of the equation and the potential they had for explosive chemistry sold me and I’ll readily say that I was more then satisfied with the results…
